Indian folklore regarding this festival refers to Lord Krishna’s visit to his sister Subhadra’s home, after defeating the demon Narakasura. Another legend mentions Lord Yamaraja’s visit to his sister, Yami’s home, who welcomed him with flowers and sweets and ceremoniously applied tilak on his forehead. In return, Lord Yamaraja presented her with a gift that reflected his affection for her.
