Celebrated with much gaiety and joy by the Mizo community, the Chapchar Kut festival falls during the first phase of Jhumming, in the interim between cutting down the trees and bamboo for clearing the jungle, till the time they are burnt to clear space for Jhumming. It is a delight to see the famous bamboo dance called Cheraw during the festival, being performed by Mizo men and women, dressed in their traditional finery. ssam down town University wishes the community an abundance of prosperity and camaraderie on Chapchar Kut.
