Dhanteras marks the beginning of festivities that culminates with Diwali and is also known by the name Dhanvantari Trayodashi. Rituals revolve around the themes of cleansing, renewal and securing blessings for prosperity and good fortune.

People flock to the market to buy silver, brass, copper, or gold items, considered auspicious for the occasion. Other items that are considered to bring good luck are jewellery, utensils, electronic items, gomti chakra, idols of gods and goddesses, and even a broom, and items made of clay.
